Quality Control and Optimization Coordinator

General:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the objective of the Quality Control and Optimization Coordinator is to maximize profit and efficiencies by optimizing production standards to meet customer requirements.  In addition, the Quality Control and Optimization Coordinator will direct improvement initiatives to raise quality awareness and training for all levels of the division.

Major Duties:

  • Provide a quality product that consistently meets customer expectations
  • Maintain quality and control standards
  • Manage optimization to maximize grade quality, recovery, value, and productivity
  • Provide leadership in safety by adhering to and upholding all safe work rules, procedures and practices, and addressing any unsafe acts and conditions as required
  • Develop and improve management systems to exceed customer expectations and optimize grade outturn and profitability
  • Oversee Quality Control and Optimization processes for the site (Sawmill, Planer, and Kilns) from logs to finished lumber
  • Ensure the regular monitoring and tracking of machine center performance
  • Investigate abnormal conditions related to product quality, determine root cause, develop action plans, implement actions, and provide follow-up
  • Work with the sales/shipping department and perform simulations
  • Audit grade checks to improve overall grade accuracy and outturn
  • Work closely with Production and Maintenance Superintendents to ensure Safety, Quality, and Production standards are understood and actively co-exist
  • Ensure the implementation of key Corporate and Operational initiatives

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Thorough understanding of lumber manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with sawmill and planer mill optimization
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent computer and presentation skills
  • Kiln drying knowledge is an asset
  • A valid grading ticket
  • Scaling ticket or willing to obtain one
  • Grade 12 or equivalent education

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of company employees
