Canfor Corporation Bursary
$8,000
- Bursaries totalling $8,000 are awarded annually to students at UBC proceeding in a full program of studies to an undergraduate degree as follows: Forestry $4,000, Engineering $2,000, and Commerce and Business Administration $2,000.
- The awards are made at the discretion of the University to students with satisfactory academic records who have need for financial assistance.
Canfor Corporation Scholarship in Forestry
$1,150
- This $1,150 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student in the Wood Products Processing Program. Preference will be given to students who have graduated from secondary schools in rural BC communities. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry.
Northwood Pulp & Timber Scholarship

Northwood Inc. was a top ranked forestry products manufacturer with a rich history in northern British Columbia. Northwood was purchased by Canfor in 1999 and so, while the company itself no longer exists, its legacy will live on at UBC. Northwood established these awards to recognize those students who have achieved academic excellence and who strive to prepare themselves for exciting careers.
- Ten scholarships totalling $25,000 are awarded to undergraduate students in various programs as follows: 2 in Forestry, 2 in Engineering, 2 in Commerce and Business Administration, and 4 for students in any undergraduate program.
- Preference will be given to students who have attended a secondary or post-secondary institution in northern British Columbia.
- These scholarships are awarded on the recommendation of the respective faculties.
Paul Robert Steiner Memorial Scholarship in Wood Science
$3,200
At the request of UBC and the recommendation of Dr. Suezone Chow, former Vice-President of the Canfor Research and Development Centre, a funding commitment was made to this scholarship in 1995. Dr. Steiner, a wood adhesive and composite research scientist worked closely with Canfor.
- The award is offered to the top second or third year undergraduate student in the Wood Sciences program and is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry.
William McMahan Scholarship
$3,200
Over three decades ago, William McMahan endowed a scholarship at the University of British Columbia for which preference is given to sons and daughters of employees of Canfor Corporation (Canadian Forest Products Ltd.).
- A scholarship of $3,200 is offered to students entering their second, third or final year in chemical, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, or in forestry.
- This scholarship is open to sons and daughters of employees of the logging operations, pulp operations or the head office of Canadian Forest Products Ltd., or failing a suitable candidate from these operations, to sons and daughters of employees of other operations of the Company.
- If in the judgment of the University, there are two such students deserving of the award, it will be divided between them. If no such candidate is available or, in the opinion of the University, no candidate has a sufficiently good academic record to merit the award, the University may grant the scholarship to a worthy and deserving student in Engineering or Forestry from the student body at large.
- Candidates in the preferred categories should submit their names and details of family service with the Company on their application.

Canfor Corporation Fellowship in Forest Ecosystem Management
$7,500
A $7,500 is offered by Canfor Corporation for support of graduate studies in wildlife management in forest ecosystem management in the Faculty of Forestry. The Company hopes these studies will lead to improved understanding of forest ecosystems, ecological processes and their response to forest management. A portion is provided to the fellow or fellows, the balance to be used for equipment, materials and supplies essential to the research. The fellowship is awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry.
