PELLETS

Converting sawmill residues into sustainable wood pellets reduces waste and creates a green energy source. The industrial grade fuel pellets provide clean biomass energy to customers in Europe, North America and Asia.

Our pellet facility in Houston, BC – owned and operated in partnership with Pinnacle Pellet Inc. and the Moricetown Indian Band – produces 217,000 tonnes of industrial wood pellets annually.

In partnership with Pacific Bioenergy Corporation, we opened a pellet facility in Chetwynd in late 2015, and one in Fort St. John in early 2016. Together, the two facilities have a combined annual capacity of 175,000 tonnes. The Chetwynd pellet plant also includes a 3MW combined heat and power plant, offsetting our electricity requirements and relieving power on the municipal grid.

CERTIFICATIONS

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)

The SFI sustainable forest management and fiber sourcing standards are endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). The world’s largest forest certification organization, PEFC recognizes national or regional certification standards that meet their rigorous requirements based on international criteria and indicators of sustainable forest management.

Canfor Energy North LP has two pellet production facilities certified to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) chain of custody standard. PEFC chain of custody certification gives our customers confidence that Canfor products come from well-managed forests. By adhering to the chain of custody, Canfor Energy North LP commits to tracking every pellet that comes from our mills from the forest of origin and through every step of the manufacturing process.

Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP)

Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) is a certification system to provide assurance that woody biomass used in energy production is sourced from legal and sustainable sources. It certifies that companies may produce, trade or use biomass from sustainably-managed forests by maintaining forests, conserving biodiversity and preserving forests. Canfor Energy North LP has two pellet plants certified under SBP.

Green Gold Label (GGL)

Green Gold Label (GGL) is an international certification scheme to provide assurances that biomass products are produced using sustainable sources. GGL certification covers the sourcing, production, processing and transportation of waste wood biomass to its final use applications. Canfor Energy North LP has two pellet plants certified to the Green Gold Label.
