Why Sault Ste. Marie, ON
Sault Ste. Marie, also known as the Soo, is located at the heart of Canada and the heart of the Great Lakes. It has a rich history as one of the oldest settlements in North America where, for at least 2,000 years, people have lived beside the rapids of St. Marys River.
The Soo has become a modern and bustling city with nearby access to nature. It is described as having the advantages of “big city” living but with the friendliness of a small town that is nestled in natural wilderness. The Soo’s arts and entertainment scene is thriving and Sault Ste. Marie is a great place to raise a family.
Across St. Marys River and connected by the International Bridge is the twin city of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Located on St. Marys River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior, there is no shortage of pristine wilderness and is an ideal area for outdoor enthusiast. Near to the city is the John Rowswell HUB Trail, which offers over 25 kilometres of hiking trails.
The landscape of the area is so spectacular that it drew the interest of the Group of Seven artists. Along the nearby Agawa Canyon, there are sites where the artists painted some of their most iconic work 100 years ago.
