Canfor Pulp Wins CIPEC Leadership Award

I am proud to share that Canfor Pulp was honoured with a Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) Leadership Award in the category of Employee Awareness and Training.

This CIPEC Leadership Award demonstrates that Canfor Pulp continues to be at the forefront of our industry in improving the energy efficiency of our operations.

Canfor Pulp was selected for this award based on the company’s significant achievements in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship within Canada’s industrial sector and for the company’s alignment with the Government of Canada’s commitment to advancing its clean growth agenda.

“Congratulations to Canfor Pulp on their CIPEC Leadership Award,” said Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources. “Through their innovative manufacturing techniques, they’ve made a remarkable impact in the field of clean technologies. Canfor’s dedication to protecting the environment is to be commended.”

Canfor Pulp’s recent investments in energy conservation have encompassed much more than its work in employee awareness and training. We’ve  made significant strides to achieve energy efficiency gains, which have included turbine generator upgrades that reduced the mills’ dependency on purchased electricity as well as increased the mills’ thermal energy performance; updates to operating and maintenance practices; and capital investments to improve the company’s biomass boilers.

In an award ceremony on May 17, as part of the Energy Summit 2016 conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Robert Thew, Manager, Strategic Capital and Energy, accepted the award.
