Responding to COVID-19

A Message to our Community from our President & CEO

We want to express how grateful we are for our employees, contractors, suppliers, customers and communities as we combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Canfor’s top priority is actively working to ensure the health and safety of these groups and to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. As the pandemic is quickly evolving, Canfor will continue to monitor the development and implications of the virus.

The forestry sector has been classified as an essential service in the provinces and states where Canfor has operations, and while we remain open for business, we have made some important changes.

Canfor’s Action Plan: We have implemented an action plan across the company to ensure we are following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the federal and provincial/state government recommendations in each country where we operate. We continue to update our action plan for our employees and the business regularly.

In March, most of our office-based employees transitioned to working from home. For employees who are performing critical functions that cannot be performed remotely, including mill operations, we have implemented rotating schedules or other means of achieving effective social distancing while ensuring business continuity and the safe and efficient running of our plants. The company’s social distancing procedures include the elimination of group gatherings such as crew talks, and visitors are limited to essential services only and must be pre-screened before accessing sites.

Additional precautionary measures include more frequent and thorough daily cleanings. For example, at the start of our shifts we have all operators spray and clean their respective booths, consoles or mobile equipment. This is just a brief summary of our action plan.

Our dedicated team in sales and marketing and global supply chain continue to be available to serve our customers and partners.

Supporting Our Communities: Where possible, our operations have been working with local health centres, hospitals and seniors’ homes to support their urgent medical supply needs. We have donated critical medical protective supplies such as masks, various types of gloves, safety glasses and coveralls to help protect health care workers on the front line and to support remote communities.

We sincerely appreciate the resilience and hard work of our employees, contractors and suppliers as we navigate these challenging times. A special thanks to the essential service providers and everyone working to protect our communities.

We encourage you and your families to stay safe and healthy. Let’s continue to take care of each other, we will get through this together

1905_sp_692Sincerely,
Don Kayne
