Forest Machine Connectivity Project
Enhancing logging performance & visibility.
Canfor and its partners are improving logging equipment performance and supply chain visibility in the forest.
Investing in innovation for forestry operations.
Canfor’s Forest Machine Connectivity (FMC) Project invests in tech to enhance forestry in Canada, ensuring industry success and supporting contractors through innovation and partnerships.
Background
Canfor and its partners have developed FMC technology to improve our competitive advantage during timber harvesting, and to help control rising costs. The new hardware and software are positively impacting our planning process and how Canfor works with its contractors.
The Forest Machine Connectivity is helping to:
- Improve machine productivity and utilization in harvest operations to control logging costs
- Improve supply chain visibility by collecting log inventory data
Make better business decisions.
FMC has two key priorities.
Performance Management for Logging Equipment
The FMC platform enables logging contractors, machine operators and forest managers to improve machine uptime and productivity by capturing, analyzing, and reporting machine data in near real time.
Supply Chain Visibility
The data collected by the FMC initiative helps build the bigger picture of supply chain visibility. FMC collects processor production data that provides log inventory data early in the supply chain process. This enables the optimization of the planning process for our mill operations.
