Canfor Supports Elite Speed Skater Alison Desmarais

By Heather Lefebvre, Director, Employee and Community Engagement

Canfor is proud to share that we have signed on as an official sponsor of Olympic hopeful Alison Desmarais, a short-track speed skater from Vanderhoof, BC.

Alison began speed skating at the age of eight in the Canfor community of Vanderhoof, BC where she stayed until graduating high school and where her parents still reside. Over the years, she has excelled at the sport and was awarded the 2017 Premier’s Award for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport in British Columbia.

Alison’s international career has just begun, having recently joined the World Cup circuit and competing at the international level for the first time last November in Calgary. The World Cup circuit has also taken her to race in Salt Lake City, USA and Almaty, Kazakhstan. We are very proud to be her first corporate sponsor and to have our logo prominently placed on her official competition suit.

Alison’s next World Cup races will take place at the 2019 Canadian Selections March 8-10 in Calgary, Alberta. We wish her the best of luck! We look forward to following Alison’s journey and are proud to support this ambassador of the Vanderhoof community achieve her athletic dreams.
