Don Kayne

Chief Executive Officer, Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp

Don Kayne was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Canfor Corporation on May 5, 2011. He was additionally appointed Chief Executive Officer of Canfor Pulp Products Incorporated on September 30, 2012.

Don has spent his entire career at Canfor, starting out as a regional sales representative in 1979. He is motivated by what lays ahead for the forest sector as the global population and demand for sustainable, renewable products grows. Prior to being appointed CEO, he spent 10 years as Canfor’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing and is one of the lead architects of Asian market development for British Columbia lumber. Don’s work growing markets for Canfor’s products around the world has provided him with deep connections to markets and customers in every region they serve.

Don serves as a Director of Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp. He is a Director and past Chairman of the Forest Products Association of Canada and Chairman of the BC Council of Forest Industries. In addition, he is a Director of the Alberta Forest Products Association and the BC Lumber Trade Council. Don is also a Director of Cameco Corporation and Chairman of Human Resources and Compensation Committee.

David Calabrigo, QC

Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary

David Calabrigo was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary on May 6, 2011.

David joined Canfor as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in January 2001. In addition to his extensive responsibilities heading legal and corporate compliance for the Company, David is in charge of mergers and acquisitions – a key portfolio for a company that continues to grow at home and abroad.

Born and raised in Vancouver, David received his Law degree from the University of Alberta and in 2010 was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel.

Patrick Elliott

Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance & Sustainability

Patrick Elliott was appointed as Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance & Sustainability in June 2020 and oversees strategy and corporate finance as well as sustainability and environment. He was previously Vice President, Corporate Finance and Strategy and prior to that Vice President and Treasurer.

Since 2013, he has been leading the financial analysis related to over $1 billion in mergers and acquisitions completed by the company.

Prior to joining Canfor, Patrick worked for six years at KPMG Chartered Accountants in audit and taxation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia in 1995 and is a Chartered Accountant registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

Darren Barker

Chief Digital Officer and Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain

Darren Barker joined Canfor in August 2020 as Chief Digital Officer and Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain. He leads all aspects of supply chain management and is responsible for driving the continued evolution of the company’s technology capabilities.

Prior to joining Canfor, Darren served for 15 years on the executive team with Georgia Pacific, a paper products manufacturer, including as President of their Bleached Board business for seven years.

He has extensive experience in operations management, international business, digital transformation, and talent and culture development.

Bob Hayes

Vice President, Global Supply Chain

Bob Hayes was appointed Vice President, Global Supply Chain for Canfor in April 2018. Bob is responsible for the company’s corporate sourcing and mill-to-market transportation for over 30 operations. He also has accountability for Canfor’s private trucking fleet, New South Express, located in the US south.

Bob began his career in the industry in 1986 and joined Canfor following its acquisition of Balfour Guthrie in 1989. Throughout his extensive career with Canfor, Bob has held a variety of senior management roles in international and domestic lumber sales, and supply chain.

Bob obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.

Stephen Mackie

Executive Vice President, North American Operations

Stephen Mackie was appointed Executive Vice President, North American Operations in February 2020, with responsibility for leadership of the wood products operations in Canada and the US South. In this critical role he leverages and optimizes Canfor’s operations across North America and enables the company to more efficiently meet customer demand. In addition, Stephen continues to focus on supporting employees with their leadership and development.

Stephen has been with Canfor since 2005 and most recently served as Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations where he was responsible for the company’s wood products business in Canada including lumber, pellet and green energy manufacturing facilities along with all woodlands operations. At Canfor, he has also held positions as Vice President, Operations Canada and Director, Capital and Strategic Projects where he aligned business and customer needs by overseeing more than $450 million in capital investments and supported Canfor’s expansion into the southeast United States.

Prior to Canfor, he was with Weldwood of Canada for almost 10 years and worked in operations, capital planning and marketing to align fibre characteristics and manufacturing capabilities to meet customer needs.

Stephen’s extensive experience in wood products manufacturing and woodlands management places him in an ideal position to help Canfor meet the rapidly changing needs of the modern forest industry and growing global markets. He supports the sector by serving on the BC Forest Safety Council Board and the Council of Forest Industries’ Management Committee.

Alan Nicholl

Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Finance and Canfor Pulp Products Inc.

Alan Nicholl was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Finance and Canfor Pulp Products Inc. in March 2018. Prior to this appointment, Alan served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President for both Canfor and Canfor Pulp.

Alan has been with the company since April 2008 when he joined as Corporate Controller. He has held various senior financial positions within the Canadian forestry industry.

Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Alan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Accounting from Bristol University, England in 1985. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

Kevin Pankratz

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Kevin Pankratz began his career at Canfor in 2004 and was appointed to his current role as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing in January 2018. In 2019 his role expanded to include the responsibility for sales and marketing of Canfor’s pulp products.

His extensive experience at Canfor includes leadership roles in Asia and North American markets, supply chain optimization, and market development. His experience, which includes 30 years in the forest industry, has enabled Kevin to play a key role in executing Canfor’s market diversification and customer-focused strategy. Kevin is currently the Vice Chair of The Canadian Wood Council, and chairs the subcommittee for Wood Works.

Kevin obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of British Columbia.

Katy Player

Vice President, People & Communications

Katy Player was appointed Vice President, People & Communications in March 2018. Katy’s career at Canfor began in 2015 as the Director, Learning and Leadership and later as the Director, People & Culture.

In the 15 years prior to joining Canfor, Katy held a variety of leadership roles in HR and Operations at BC Hydro, UBC and in municipal government.

Born and raised in North Vancouver, Katy’s academic and athletic pursuits led her to the US to obtain a Master’s of Education from Temple University in Philadelphia and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Stockton University in southern New Jersey. She is a certified change management practitioner through PROSCI and she currently represents Canfor on the Forest Products Association of Canada’s HR committee.

Fred T. Stimpson

President, Canfor Southern Pine

Fred T. Stimpson was appointed President of Canfor Southern Pine in 2015 to lead the Company’s business operations in the US South.

Fred joined Canfor in 2013 as part of Canfor’s phased purchase of Scotch Gulf Lumber, where he held the role of CEO. He was president of Gulf Lumber Company from 1986 to 2009.

Fred currently sits on the board of directors for the American Wood Council, the New Orleans Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and Coastal Land Trust and is a founding board member and past Chairman of the Alabama Forestry Association. He is former chairman of Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, American Family Business Institute and Infirmary Health System, and the former president of Alabama Wildlife Federation.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.

Måns Johansson

CEO, Vida Group

Måns Johansson was appointed as CEO of Vida Group in 2019, the same year Canfor acquired Sweden’s largest privately owned sawmill company, He leads the company’s operations in Sweden including its nine sawmills that produce spruce and pine products, and are strategically located in high quality and sustainable fibre regions in the country. In addition, Vida has another nine value-added facilities that include premium packaging, modular housing, industrial products and energy. He served as Managing Director of Vida Wood from 2004 to 2019. Over the years, Måns helped Vida become the Nordic countries’ largest supplier of wood packaging.

With over 20 years in the forestry industry and with Vida, Måns’ brings his strong customer mindset and innovative approach as a global supplier of sustainable Swedish wood products to the Canfor brand.

He is a board member of the Swedish Forest Industry since 2008. Måns was a board member of the European Organisaton of Sawmills (EOS) from 2009 to 2016, and he was the Chairman/President of EOS from 2014 to 2015.

In 2014, Don was appointed to the bi-national Softwood Lumber Board and currently serves as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Programs Committee. He is also a Director of Cameco, one of the world's largest uranium producers and Chairman of the charitable organization, Educating Girls of Rural China Foundation, which works to transform the lives of women and communities in rural areas of western China by providing access to education.

Glen Clark

Glen Clark, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was elected to the Board of the Company in May 2009.

Mr. Clark is the President and Chief Operational Officer of The Jim Pattison Group and a member of the Board of Directors of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation. In the capacity of President and Chief Operational Officer of The Jim Pattison Group, Mr. Clark has corporate responsibility for, Canadian Fishing Company, COMAG, Everything Wine, Genpak, Guinness World Records, Jim Pattison Lease, Montebello, Ocean Brands, Overwaitea Food Group, Pattison Sign Group, Ripley Entertainment, Sunrype, The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group and TNG. 

Prior to 2001, Mr. Clark served as Premier of British Columbia from February 1996 to August 1999.  He was Minister of Finance and Corporate Relations from November 1991 to September 1993 and Minister of Employment and Investment from September 1993 until February 1996. Mr. Clark was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 1986 to represent the constituency of Vancouver-East. 

Mr. Clark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of British Columbia.

Mr. Clark is Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee and is a member of the Joint Environmental, Health & Safety Committee, and the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Barbara Hislop

Ms. Hislop was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2017. She is an award-winning senior executive and an active community leader.

Ms. Hislop worked at Canfor from 1977-2004 where she held various roles in marketing, production, and executive positions including Vice-President of Operations and President and CEO of Genus Resource Management Technologies Inc., a technology company that Canfor operated from 2002-2005. Ms. Hislop has also served as Executive Director of Variety-The Children’s Charity of BC and and completed a two-year term as International President of Variety – The Children’s Charity. She is currently the ex-International President and President of the European Regional Council. Ms. Hislop is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors Governance Program in Canada and has sat on several Boards including Bank of Canada and Hudson’s Bay and Canfor.

Ms. Hislop is Chair of the Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee and is a member of the Joint Corporate Governance Committee and Capital Expenditure Committee.

Dallas Ross

Mr. Ross of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2018.

Mr. Ross is currently a General Partner and Founder of Kinetic Capital Partners in Vancouver, BC. He is also Chairman of the Board of Rogers Sugar and Lantic, Chief Financial Officer and Board member of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation, and Board member of Westshore Terminals Ltd.

Prior to founding Kinetic Capital Partners, Mr. Ross was Managing Director, Investment Banking at Scotia Capital in Vancouver and, prior to that, Managing Director, Mergers & Acquisitions in Toronto with Scotia McLeod where he started at its predecessor, McLeod Young Weir, in Toronto in 1985.

Mr. Ross is a member of the Joint Environment, Health, & Safety Committee, Audit Committee and Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee.

Conrad Pinette

Conrad Pinette of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is Chairman of the Board of both Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp Products Ltd.

Mr. Pinette's work in the Canadian forest industry began 40 years ago as an owner and President of a family lumber business, Pinette & Therrien Mills Ltd. Mr. Pinette has also served as Executive Vice President, Tolko Industries Ltd. (2005), Executive Vice President, Riverside Forest Products Limited (2004) and served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Lignum Limited from January 1990 to April 2004.

Mr. Pinette is the former Chairman of Finning International Inc. and a former Director of Gold Canyon Resources Inc., TimberWest Forest Corp, Northgate Minerals Corporation, A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund, Finning International Inc. and the British Columbia Business Council. His is currently a member of the Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Prostate Advisory Board.

Ryan Barrington-Foote

Mr. Barrington-Foote was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2017.

He is currently the Managing Director, Accounting, at The Jim Pattison Group where he has worked since 2001 with oversight responsibility for accounting and tax related functions. From 1996-2001, he was associated with KPMG LLP, where he earned his CPA (CA) designation in 2001. He obtained a degree in Business Administration (Hons.) from Simon Fraser University. Mr. Barrington-Foote is a former member of the Board of Directors of Just Energy Group Inc. from 2015-2017 and was a Director and Treasurer of the Rick Hansen Institute from 2010-2016 and received an award as one of Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009.

Mr. Barrington-Foote is Chair of the Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee, and is a member of the Audit Committee and Joint Corporate Governance Committee.

Ross Smith

Ross Smith, FCPA, FCA, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was elected to the Board of the Company in May 2009.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Board of Directors of Rotherham Holdings Ltd., a member of the Advisory Board of Marsh Canada Limited and Chairman of the Board for K-Bro Linen Inc., N&T Properties Ltd. and Kal Tire Holdings Ltd. 

Mr. Smith had a successful 35 year career at KPMG LLP where he held various roles, including Managing Partner for British Columbia region and served for 13 years on the National Management Committee prior to his retirement in 1998. While in public practice, Mr. Smith served major public and private companies, many of which were in the forest industry, from an audit and securities perspective.

Mr. Smith has served on many charitable and community boards in a past member of the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia. Mr. Smith is also a former member of the Board of Directors of HSBC Bank Canada. Mr. Smith qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1962 and was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC) in 1990 and in 2010 was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the ICABC.

Mr. Smith is Chair at the Audit Committee and is a member of the Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee.

William Stinson

Mr. Stinson spent the majority of his business career with Canadian Pacific Ltd. retiring as Chairman and CEO in 1996 after 11 years in that position. He has served on a wide variety of boards and has held the positions of Chairman of Sun Life Financial, Chairman of the Executive Committee of United Dominion Industries and Lead Director of CHC Helicopters Ltd. He is currently a Director of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation.

Mr. Stinson is currently the Canada Chairman and CEO of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation. He is also a member of the Audit Committee, the Joint Environment, Health and Safety Committee, the Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee and the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Stan E. Bracken-Horrocks

Stan E. Bracken-Horrocks, FCA, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada has been a Director of the Company since 2010 and served as a Trustee of the Fund from 2006 to 2011. Mr. Bracken-Horrocks served as a Director of the Board of the General Partner from 2006 to 2012.

Mr. Bracken-Horrocks is a retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and held various leadership positions during his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, including Global Leader of its Forest and Paper Industry practice. As a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mr. Bracken-Horrocks served as a member of the Board of Governors and a member of the Accounting Standards Committee and, as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia, he served as a member of council, Vice-President and President. Mr. Bracken-Horrocks is a former Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Business Development Bank of Canada.

Mr. Bracken-Horrocks is Chair of the Audit Committee and is a member of the Joint Corporate Governance Committee and the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

The Honourable John R. Baird

Johh Baird, P.C., of Toronto, Ontario was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2016.

Mr. Baird is a Senior Business Advisor to various enterprises and a former Senior Cabinet Minister in the Government of Canada.

Mr. Baird spent three terms as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons, most recently as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2011-2015). Previously, Mr. Baird held a variety of government posts, including President of the Treasury Board, Minister of the Environment, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. 

Mr. Baird also spent 10 years in the Ontario Legislature. From 1995 to 2005 he served as Minister of Community and Social Services, Minister of Energy, and Government House Leader.

In addition, Mr. Baird currently sits on the advisory board of Canadian Pacific, the FWD Group, and PineBridge Investments, and is a member of the International Advisory Board of Barrick Gold Corp.  

Mr. Baird also volunteers his time with Community Living Ontario and the Prince's Charities. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University at Kingston.

Dianne Watts

Ms. Watts of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, was elected to the Board of the Company in June 2018.

Ms. Watts, a well-known and popular local figure in British Columbia, has had a successful political career that spans over 20 years. She is a proven leader at both the municipal and federal levels having served as a Surrey, BC city councillor (1996-2005), Mayor of Surrey, BC (2005-2014) and as Member of Parliament for South Surrey-White Rock (2015-2017).

Ms. Watts’s extensive Board and Committee experience includes having served on the Board of Directors for PRIMECorp and Metro Vancouver as well on several Metro Vancouver committees. She received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the Justice Institute of BC and was named the Iconic Leader of the Decade by the All Ladies League and Women’s Economic Forum in 2018.

Ms. Watts is a member of the Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee.

Mr. Ohlner is the former Executive Vice President of Handelsbanken in Sweden.

Mr. Ohlner had a successful 30 year career at Handelsbanken in Sweden holding various senior roles. Executive Vice President, Head of the Regional Bank Eastern Sweden (2003-2008), Executive Vice President Head of the Regional Bank Southern Sweden (2008-2014) and Executive Vice President Central Head Office in Stockholm. In addition to that served as Chair of the Forest and Agriculture Advisory Board of the bank is a member of their Life Insurance Company and Handelsbanken Regional Southern Sweden Advisory Board and was as a Director of Vida AB. Mr Ohlner studied Political Science and Information Technology as well as a Legal overview Course at the Växjö University in Sweden.

Dieter W. Jentsch

Mr. Jentsch is a Senior Executive and career banker with experience in Canadian, US and International
markets.

Background: Mr. Jentsch had a successful 35 year career at Bank of Nova Scotia holding numerous
senior roles. In addition, to being part of Scotiabank’s Operating Committee, he was Group Head of
Global Banking and Markets (2016-2018) and Group Head of International Banking (2012-2016). Other
prior roles included Executive Vice President Latin America and Executive Vice President Canadian
Commercial Banking. Mr. Jentsch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and a Master of
Business Administration degree. He holds a diploma from the Advanced Management Programme from
the European Institute of Business (INSEAD) as well as a diploma from the University of Toronto
Rotman-ICD Directors Education Program.

Brian Yuen

Vice President, Pulp Sales and Marketing

Brian Yuen was appointed Vice President, Pulp Sales and Marketing in January 2019. Brian’s career with Canfor started in 1996 and has held different roles over the years with increasing responsibility. In his most recent role of Director, Pulp Sales, Asia, which he held since 2012, he was responsible for growing our pulp business in China. In his current role, Brian is responsible for advancing Canfor Pulp’s overall strategic priorities and leading the Asia Pacific pulp sales team.

Brian obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia and a Diploma in International Trade for the BC Institute of Technology.

Kevin Anderson

Vice President, Operations

Kevin Anderson is the Vice President, Operations at Canfor Pulp and joined in April 2020. He brings a wealth of experience in both Canadian and international pulp and paper operations.

Prior to joining the company, he served as General Manager at the Australian-based paper, packaging and recycling company, Visy Industries. Throughout his 27 years in the industry, Kevin has held a variety of technical and leadership roles with companies such as Mercer International, J.D. Irving and Norske Skog. He has been instrumental in managing strategic initiatives, improving performance and sustainability of operations, developing and executing capital upgrade programs, and transforming safety culture at mills. He has a proven track record of delivering results and developing collaborative teams.

Kevin earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering and Master of Engineering in Pulp and Paper from the University of British Columbia.
